Centre-right candidate Andrea
Frailis, a 62-year-old journalist, won Sunday's by-election for
a seat representing residents in Cagliari in the Lower House
with over 40% of the vote.
5-Star Movement candidate Luca Caschili was second with
28.9%, while the centre right's Daniele Noli got 27.8%.
The turnout was just 15%.
The by-election was held after sailor Andrea Mura quit
parliament having been ejected from the M5S due a row over him
continuing as a yachtsman rather than dedicating himself 100% to
being a lawmaker.
