Premier's office sources said
Friday that the number of households estimated to be eligible to
claim the new 'citizenship wage' basic income is around 1.8
million families, with around five million people potentially
benefiting in total.
A report linked to the decree introducing the benefit and the
'quota 100' pension reform, which was approved by the cabinet on
Thursday, put the number of households likely to apply at around
1.32 million.
The government sources said that the difference was a
"statistical adjustment" based on an estimate that only around
85% of the families that have the right to the basic income will
actually apply for it.
