The 5-Star Movement on Tuesday
called on its coalition partner, Deputy Premier and Interior
Minister Matteo Salvini's League, to clarify the case of party
treasurer Giulio Centemero.
Centemero is involved in an investigation into alleged
illegal party funding.
"We are certain that the League will provide further
clarification," M5S Lower House and Senate whips Francesco D'Uva
and Stefano Patuanelli said in a statement.
"And we hope that Salvini does not play down the case.
"We are duty-bound to say one thing: we have always fought
against illegal party funding".
The new probe follows the case of the alleged
misappropriation of League party funds by members of its old
guard.
That case saw League founder Umberto Bossi and former
treasurer Francesco Belsito convicted and led to an order for 49
million euros of party funds to be seized.
