At least one Italian local
official or civil service worker is threatened or intimidated
almost every day, a report showed on Tuesday.
The most common form of intimidation involved setting fire
to a car, according to the report titled Administrators Under
Fire.
The total number of recorded threats against local
government staff rose 3% to 361 in 2014, involving 18 regions,
69 provinces and 227 municipalities.
About three quarters of the threats occurred in the south
of the country, 14% in the north and 12% in the central regions.
Naples was the worst hit province, registering 29 cases.
The report, presented in Turin, showed that the three
incidents registered in Piedmont in 2014 affected Governor
Sergio Chiamparino, a local councillor, and the fire department.
