The Italian Embassy in Mexico today released the programme of events of the IX Week of Italian Cuisine, the annual thematic review dedicated to the promotion of Italian gastronomy and quality food products, promoted by the network of diplomatic representations, consulates, cultural institutes and ICE offices abroad. The 2024 edition, scheduled in the capital of the Latin American country from 18 to 25 November, will be held under the theme 'Mediterranean Diet and Roots Cuisine: Health and Tradition'.
The first appointment - which will be attended only by specially invited media - is set for Monday 18 at 6 p.m. with a presentation press conference at 'La Trattoria Palacio' restaurant in Mexico City's Polanco district.
The Italian ambassador, Alessandro Modiano, the director of the Ice/Ita agency, Olga Gravela, the cultural attaché, Ilaria Giacomi, the president of the Italian Chamber of Commerce, Lorenzo Vianello, and - as guest of honour - the chef Giorgio Barchiesi, alias Giorgione, who will be the protagonist of a show cooking, will participate.
On Wednesday 20 at 4 p.m., at the Italian Institute of Culture (IIC), there will be another invitation-only event aimed at groups of university students: a masterclass by Giorgione, followed by the panel discussion 'The evolution of olive oil: between history and tradition', led by Professor Elena Mazzetto - from the Faculty of Letters and Philosophy at Unam - and Professor José Luis Curiel Monteagudo, from the Ibero-American University.
At 6 p.m., the programme includes a tasting of extra virgin olive oils, and at 7 p.m. participants will be offered an aperitif by Giorgione, during the inauguration of the exhibition 'Italians in the kitchen', which will take place in conjunction with a body percussion performance by the artist Anselmo Luisi. On Friday 22 November, at a time yet to be defined, a conference on the Mediterranean diet, which has been included in the UNESCO intangible cultural heritage since 2010, will be held at the Società Dante Alighieri headquarters.
During the weekend of 23 and 24 November, the 'Christmas Market' of the Italian Association of Assistance, a bazaar and gastronomic festival will be held at the IIC from 11:00 am to 6:30 pm, which will also include - at 3:30 pm on Sunday 24 - a concert by the group 'Accento Italiano'.
On Monday 25 November, the programme of the IXth Aztec Culinary Week will end with the grand finale of the 9th Mexican Pizza Championship - organised by the Italian Chamber of Commerce - at the Italian Cultural Institute. The competitors will each prepare a margherita pizza, a creative pizza, and an aesthetic pizza between 4:00 pm and 8:15 pm.in front of a jury of experts who will choose the overall winner and the first runners-up in each category.
