Some 23 million Italian people either
went on a trip in July or are going on holiday in August,
Raffaele Rio, the head of market-research institute Demoskopika,
told ANSA on Friday.
He said 67% of Italian holidaymakers had chosen seaside
destinations.
Around 21.5% have opted for vacations in the mountains, in the
countryside or beside a lake, he said.
Just under 9% were going to cities rich with art and culture.
Rio said 74% of the travellers were staying in Italy.
Almost a fifth of the holidaymakers (19.9%) are going to other
parts of Europe while 6.1% are travelling outside the continent.
A total of around 8.5 million Italians are holidaying abroad.
