Tourists will be able to book a
visit to Venice from 2020 onward, Mayor Luigi Brugnaro said
Monday.
The aim is to allow those who want to plan their visit to
reserve access, but "access will not be denied anyone," Brugnaro
added.
However, he said, access would be "more complicated" for
those who do not reserve a place.
Venice has been striving to combat overcrowding by measures
including an entry charge.
"We're not interested in drumming up money but arriving at
2022 with a good management of Venice's tourist flows; a
forecast of arrivals with real and not invented numbers," said
Brugnaro.
The aim of the measure, he said, was "to improve the quality
of life of the citizens in the ancient city and the islands."
Brugnaro reiterated that "up till December 2019 we will apply
a complete reduction for all to three euros.
"The city is and will remain open, we're in favour of a
'light' contribution".
