La Scala will start its next season
with Russian opera Boris Godunov, superintendent Dominique Meyer
confirmed Monday, saying he was against "witch hunts" linked to
Moscow's invasion of Ukraine.
The Mussorgsky masterpiece will open the season on December 7,
he said.
Meye also defended the Milan opera house's decision to keep
Russian singers like soprano Anna Netrebko.
"I'm not for witch hunts," Meyer said at a press conference
presenting the season.
"I'm not in favour of the cancellation of Russian works, and
when I read Pushkin, I don't hide.".
