Rome Mayor Roberto Gualtieri and
retail group Confcommercio on Monday lamented the announced
closure of bookseller Felitrinelli's historic store in the
landmark Galleria Alberto Sordi as a a sign of the hollowing out
of the city centre to tourist traps and mini-marts.
Centre-left Democratic Party (PD) member Gualtieri said "Rome's
historic centre is now just a Disneyland of quick getaway
tourism and quality outlets have the most difficulty".
Confcommercio said "the closure of Feltrinelli is just the last
piece of a haemorrhage of closures of stores in the centre,
which we highlighted some time ago".
