A "radical chic" jury picked
Italo-Egyptian Sanremo song contest winner Alessandro Mahmood,
Interior Minister and anti-migrant League party leader Matteo
Salvini said Monday.
He said Italian journalists Beppe Severgnini and Serena
Dandini, Italo-American celebrity chef Joe Bastianich,
Turkish-Italian film director Ferzan Ozpetek, and Italian
actress Claudia Pandolfi, were not music critics who would have
had the necessary competence to judge a song contest, but a
"radical chic club".
Salvini said he had phoned Mahmood to congratulate him, and
had "nothing against him".
"I phoned Alessandro, I'm happy for him," said Salvini.
Salvini said his pick for overall winner would have been
Italian singer Ultimo, who won in the Newcomers category.
