The 73rd Venice Film Festival
gets underway on Tuesday evening, opening with musical drama "La
La Land" but with planned festivities cancelled out of respect
for the victims of the earthquake that hit central Italy last
week.
Starring Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone and directed by Damien
Chazelle, "La La Land" focuses on a jazz musician who falls in
love with an aspiring actress in Los Angeles.
A strong Italian presence in the out-of-competition
category is led by Paolo Sorrentino's hotly awaited TV series
"The Young Pope" starring Jude Law and Diane Keaton.
Celebrities due to attend the fest include Emma Stone, Cate
Blanchett, Amy Adams, Tom Ford and Naomi Watts.
