The City of Milan inaugurated
Wheatfield, a site-specific art project by American artist Agnes
Denes, on Saturday as part of the MiArt 2015 modern and
contemporary art festival.
Expo Milan 2015 world fair Commissioner Giuseppe Sala
presented the 12-acre urban agriculture project that was planted
by 5000 city residents, saying "Milan is beautiful, and
beautiful cities know how to change. Traveling the world, I've
seen that everyone knows Milan for fashion, design and food, but
it is this need for change that makes the city very attractive",
Sala said.
The citizen planting took place February 28 in the Porta
Nuova neighborhood as part of a collaborative, long-term project
"MiColtivo. The Green Circle" that aims to promote the values of
food and energy, environmental conservation, social and economic
growth.
The area is open to the public daily, and includes
information points and teaching garden with orchard. The project
was set up with the the support of the Nicola Trussardi
Foundation, Confagricoltura and the Riccardo Catella Foundation.
