Israel on Thursday targeted three
UNIFIL bases in southern Lebanon, the spokesperson of the UN
mission Andrea Tenenti told ANSA.
The mission includes some 1,000 Italian military personnel.
Two outposts are Italian while the third hosts the mission's
headquarters.
Lebanese military intelligence sources told ANSA that the
Israeli army on Thursday opened fire at one of the Italian bases
along the demarcation line with Lebanon.
The sources said the location fired at by the IDF was the UNP
1-31 base on the hill of Laboune, an area under the
responsibility of the Italian contingent.
According to the same sources, after an Israeli drone repeatedly
flew over the base, Israeli artillery fire targeted the entrance
of the bunker sheltering Italian soldiers.
Communication systems between the base and the UNIFIL command at
Naqura were damaged in the attack, they said.
At least two UN peacekeepers were injured in Naqura, Lebanese
military security sources told ANSA.
According to the Lebanese military sources, the peacekeepers are
Indonesian citizens who were injured when an Israeli tank opened
fire against an observation tower at the base.
Local medical sources said the two UN peacekeeprs were not
seriously injured.
A few cameras located in the two Italian outposts of the UNIFIL
bases were hit and destroyed at Naqura but no Italian military
personnel was injured, well-informed sources told ANSA.
