Deputy Premier and Foreign Minister
Antonio Tajani on Wednesday said "we continue to say absolutely
not to travel to southern Lebanon and to exercise maximum
caution" in an interview with the Morning News program of
Mediaset's Canale 5.
"It's better for those who can to return", he added.
"Italians in Lebanon are approximately 4,000.
"Most of them, however, have dual citizenship and are residents.
"Some 300-350 instead are there for work or for other reasons.
"Some have returned with commercial flights, listening to our
appeal - about 10 people", he continued.
"Nevertheless, our embassy in Beirut and our foreign ministry's
crisis unit are working around the clock to provide all the
necessary information to our compatriots who need to know how to
try to return", he concluded.
