Italy is being invaded by foreign
minors coming on migrant boats and forced to commit crimes,
swelling he underage prison population, Justice Minister Carlo
Nordio said Monday.
"Our country's prison capacity has always been built and
designed with a very substantial minority of juvenile inmates in
mind," he said.
"Then suddenly we were faced with an invasion of minors who come
mainly from other countries.
"Very often, criminal organisations put many minors in these
boats.
"Some of these are taken in, others are left to their own
devices and are sometimes almost forced to commit crime.
"This has created a completely new and emergency situation".
