There are currently 555 young people
incarcerated in penal institutions for minors in Italy, 47% of
them unaccompanied foreign minors, in a post-pandemic high,
prison officials said Monday.
A "significant" increase in unaccompanied foreign minors has
pushed the numbers up, they said.
In the meantime, in recent weeks, 44 cells that had been put out
of use due to damage, mainly fires, caused by the guests of the
facilities in several institutes, including Milan's Beccaria,
have been restored.
