Foreign Minister and Deputy Premier
Antonio Tajani said on International Women's Day on Friday that
he had asked the foreign ministry to make arrangements for a red
bench symbolizing the fight against gender-based violence
including femicide to be installed in every Italian embassy
worldwide.
"Italy must mobilise in the front line to promote gender
equality and women's emancipation, in particular to prevent and
oppose all forms of violence and discrimination against women,"
said Tajani.
"This is why red benches must also enter our ministry and every
embassy," he continued, adding that they are "a symbol of the
empty place left in society by a victim of femicide".
"We must sit on those benches and give our support to women,
against violence but also against discrimination," concluded
Tajani.
