(ANSA) - ROME, NOV 20 - Carabinieri military police on Monday
carried out a major anti-international drug trafficking
operation targeting an Italian-Albanian criminal organisation
operating mainly across Sardinia, Liguria, Tuscany, Emilia
Romagna, Marche and Abruzzo.
In total 40 people were arrested in the sweep dubbed 'Family and
Friends'.
Of the suspects, 22 were placed in pre-trial prison custody and
18 under house arrest.
Investigators believe the gang was led by a man from Quartu
Sant'Elena near the Sardinian regional capital of Cagliari, who
managed relations with Spain for imports of hashish and with
Albania for cocaine. (ANSA).
