Italy shares EU goals on the energy
transition but does not believe it should get to decide what
technologies the country should be using to reach them, Premier
Giorgia Meloni said on Thursday.
"Ours seems to me to be an absolute common sense thesis and we
therefore trust that it will pass, also with regard to
biofuels," added Meloni ahead of the EU summit in Brussels.
Speaking to lawmakers ahead of the EU summit on Wednesday, the
prime minister told parliament biofuels "are a challenge that
Italy can take on".
"We are at the forefront," said Meloni.
"Net of the goals, I think the challenge facing a nation is not
to destroy its production system," she added in reference to the
EU's energy transition objectives.
