Rome university prof accused of attacking daughter, ex-wife

67-year-old law lecturer sent to trial

(ANSA) - ROME, FEB 8 - Cesare San Mauro, a well-known lawyer and professor at Rome's La Sapienza University, was sent to trial on Wednesday for allegedly physically and psychologically abusing his ex-wife and his daughter when she was 10 years old.
The alleged abuse by the 67-year-old, who is also a member of Italian Olympic Committee CONI's disciplinary board, took place from June 2016 to May 2017.
He allegedly smashed his wife into a door on one occasion and punched her on another.
He also allegedly subjected his daughter to psychological violence.
He allegedly told the girl that her mother, who has a serious illness, would die shortly, which would mean she would have to live with him all the time and be subject to his beatings.
San Mauro's lawyer Carlo Longari told a hearing that the allegations were false and that his ex-wife and daughter were colluding in an "unhealthy dynamic".
A verdict is expected by the summer. (ANSA).
