(ANSA) - ROME, FEB 3 - A 50-year-old Italian mountain climber
fell at least 20 metres to his death after slipping while
cleating a path near Pesaro in Marche on Friday, local sources
said.
The victim, an experienced climber, fell while 'bolting', i.e.
equipping a route with pitons, a new climbing route on the Balza
della Penna cliff at Piobbico (Pesaro Urbino).
During the night, operations to recover the lifeless body were
concluded by the Alpine and Speleological Rescue Service.
Having had no news of him since early afternoon, yesterday his
fiancée had alerted the wide circle of climbing acquaintances
that the man had, after numerous unsuccessful attempts to
contact him by phone. (ANSA).
