(ANSA) - ROME, JAN 26 - Seven people arrested Thursday after
an alleged attempted kidnapping near Bari last year, police
said.
The arrests were made in Bari, Barletta-Andria-Trani, and other
Puglian provinces, they said.
The alleged gang panned to abduct a Barletta businessman on
April 22 last year and hold him for ransom.
Two members of the gang were to demand the ransom money from the
wife and daughter of the businessman, who has not been named.
The alleged gang also tried two other previous kidnappings in
the Bari area, police said.
Those arrested and taken into jail preventive custody were named
as Amerigo Elia aka Rino (57), Giuseppe Lapenna (49), Luigi
Pistillo aka Gino (39), Savino Gorgoglione (37), Paolo Antolino
(51), and Giovanni Matarrese (55), while Vincenzo Zicchillo (26)
was placed under house arrest. (ANSA).
