A 16-year-old boy is in serious
condition in hospital after crashing his dinghy into rocks at La
Maddalena in Sardinia, local sources said.
The boy was hospitalised in intensive care in Sassari after the
accident that occurred around 6am Tuesday.
The young man, together with a 24-year-old friend, was on board
a dinghy that crashed onto the rocks in front of Punta Tegge,
sources said.
The La Maddalena Coast Guard rushed to the scene, alerted by the
16-year-old's mother.
The unconscious boy was transferred by helicopter first to
Olbia, then to the Santissima Annunziata hospital in Sassari,
where he is now in an intensive care ward with a serious head
injury.
The 24-year-old man, in shock and with various injuries and
trauma, was taken to the emergency room at Olbia and his
condition is not serious.
The coast guard is trying to establish what caused the accident.
