Italian President Sergio Mattarella
on Tuesday called for a fresh impetus towards full EU cohesion
over Ukraine.
Speaking in Bern, the Italian head of State said "the threat
posed by Russia to peace and security requires on the part of
all the democracies, in particular the European ones, a renewed
impetus for unity and cohesion".
He said "today the international panorama is gravely conditioned
and wounded by Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine which
takes us back to the worst era of imperialism and nationalism
and represents a profound laceration of that web of juridical
norms and principles which have given substance to the
multilateral system founded on international law and equality
between States".
