Violence against women is a flagrant
violation of human rights, President Sergio Mattarella said on
the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against
Women on Friday.
"Violence against women is a blatant violation of human rights,
sadly widespread and without geographical, generational or
social distinctions," he said.
"Putting an end to violence against women, recognising their
capacity for self-determination are issues that challenge the
freedom of all".
The Italian president reiterated the importance of spreading "a
culture of respect that invests in the younger generations,
through education on equality, mutual respect, and rejection of
all forms of oppression".
