Pope Francis on Wednesday denounced
the high degree of "cruelty" perpetrated by mercenaries in the
Ukraine war.
"I renew my invitation to prayer for the martyred Ukraine: we
ask the Lord for peace for this people that suffers such
tribulation, and which suffers so much cruelty, so much cruelty,
on the part of the mercenaries who are waging the war," Francis
said at the end of his weekly general audience in the Vatican.
"How much do we need to meet! I'm thinking of crazy war, crazy,
which martyred Ukraine is a victim of, and so many other
conflicts, which will never be resolved through the infantile
logic of arms, but only with the mild force of dialogue," the
pope had earlier said during the audience in St Peter's Square.
"But aside from Ukraine, which is martyred, we are thinking of
other conflicts: of Syria, more than 20 year of war, we're
thinking of the children of Yemen, we're thinking of Myanmar.
"What doe wars do? They destroy humanity, they destroy
everything".
