The GIMBE medical foundation said
Thursday that COVID-19 vaccination coverage was not high enough
among high-risk groups in Italy.
GIMBE President Nino Cartabellotta said that 15.2 million people
in Italy who are over 60 or clinically fragile had not had a
fourth COVID vaccine dose, as of August 31.
Presenting GIMBE's weekly coronavirus monitoring report, he said
1.88 million of them had not had a third dose and over 892,00
were completely unvaccinated for the virus.
The report said the number of new COVID cases in Italy was
around 149,000 in the August 24-30 period, down 15.8% on the
previous week.
But Cartabellotta stressed that, despite a rise in new cases
last week, the level of contagion was basically on a plateau
that it reached in the middle of August.
