The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted
the need for more effective cooperation between countries,
President Sergio Mattarella told the Zambian National Assembly
Thursday.
"Africa, like Europe and Asia, has been hit hard, not only for
the sad victim count, but because the global crisis linked to
the pandemic has weakened a process of progress," he said.
"The need to overcome the health emergency and its heavy
socio-economic consequences has placed at the centre of world
debate, for the first time, issues like universal access to
vaccines to safeguard health and the consequences on the more
fragile economies, imposing new and more effective ways of
cooperation".
Mattarella added that wars and crises like the climate one were
causing fresh migrations, and said that Europe and Africa had a
common destiny.
