A Latvian manager recently arrested in
Italy for financial crimes alleged by Moscow will not be
extradited to Russia , Justice Minister Marta Cartabia said
Wednesday, instructing a Rome court to release him.
Latvia, she pointed out, is taking part in Western sanctions
against Russia for its invasion of Ukraine and is also helping
gather evidence of Russian war crimes for the International
Criminal Court, elements which could influence the man's
extradition.
The48-year-old Latvian manager sought by Russia, Sergejs
Malikovs, was arrested in Rome earlier this week and has been in
the Italian capital's Rebibbia Prison since Sunday on a code red
warrant from Interpol.
Moscow has accused him of money laundering and financial crimes.
