Interior Minister Luciana Lamorgese
was urged Monday to explain why police had baton-charged a
student demonstration in Rome Sunday protesting the death of a
student in Friuli on his last day of work experience Friday.
Ismaele Calaciura Errante, an 18-year-old student, said he was
"struck without having done anything" as police stopped the demo
approaching parliament near the central Pantheon temple.
"I'm going to file a complaint now, I was afraid yesterday".
Centre left Democratic Party (PD) MP Matteo Orfini said "in Rome
the students demonstrating after the death of Lorenzo Parelli
were baton-charged by the police and bashed with truncheons for
no reason.
"In the same city the fascists of Forza Nuova were allowed to
assault the HQ of (leftwing trade union) CGIL. Minister
Lamorgese, does that seem normal?".
Communist Refoundation (PRC) national committee member Giovanni
Barbera "Minister Lamorgese must clear up what happened," saying
that the media had portrayed the protest at the Pantheon as
anti-capitalists and anarchists, "as if to justify the
disgraceful baton charges of the police".
