An Italian tobacconist who shot and killed a Romanian burglar in his home Monday night has been placed under investigation on suspicion of homicide, sources said Tuesday.
Sandro Fiorelli shot the would-be thief with his hunting rifle at Santopadre, in the province of Frosinone, between Rome and Naples.
Police said he fired two shots after the burglar pointed a pistol at him which later turned out to be fake.
One of the shots was fired int the air and the other hit the 34-year-old man, killing him.
The tobacconist had recently suffered a large theft in his shop, police said.
