Italian police said Wednesday they
had identified a man who allegedly kidnapped a six-year-old boy
in Puglia in 1977.
They said the man was a family friend who is now 70.
The victim, Mauro Romano, has never been found.
He went missing at Racale near Lecce on June 20 1977, at the age
of six.
Police said Romano called his alleged kidnapper "uncle".
The cold case was reopened after a local man aged 71 was
arrested for sex with minors in February.
That man is not the one who has now been ID'd for the
kidnapping, police said.
