An Italian surgeon allegedly insulted
a gay patient during an operation in the operating theatre of a
hospital near Varese in northern Italy in March, according to a
complaint from a colleague made public Tuesday.
The Varese chapter of the Italian doctors' guild said it was
looking into the alleged case and would take "stiff sanctions"
if it turned out to be true.
The alleged incident took place at Cittiglio.
The head of the Italian federation of surgical and dental
doctors guilds (FNOMCEO), Filippo Agnelli, said "if this case
turns out to be true it is extremely serious".
He said "we understand that some doctors may be suffering from
COVID burnout but that is no excuse," he added.
