Environmental crimes rose 15.6% in
2019 over 2018, according to the latest Mare Monstrum report
from environmentalist group Legambiente out Tuesday.
The main crimes were illegal construction on coastlines with
cement gobbling up kilometres of sand dunes, as well as water
purification infringements and uncontrolled illegal fishing, the
report said.
Crimes against the marine ecosystem amounted to 23,623 last
year, Legambiente said.
