The Civil Protection Department said Thursday that Italy has registered 379 new coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours.
That was up from 202 new cases on Wednesday.
The number of freshly infected people in Lombardy, the worst-hit region, is 252, equal to 66.4% of the daily rise across Italy.
Four regions have no new cases: Sicily, Umbria, Valle d'Aosta and Molise.
The department said there have now been 34,167 coronavirus deaths in Italy, up 53 in a day.
That was down from Wednesday's rise of 71 and the lowest daily daily toll since March 2, when there were 52, and the same as that registered on June 7. There have been 25 victims in Lombardy in the last 24 hours, compared to 32 fresh victims Wednesday. It said 171,338 people have recovered from COVID-19 here, 1,399 more than Wednesday, when the rise was 1,293.
There are 30,637 people currently infected with the coronavirus in Italy, down 1,073.
    Wednesday's fall was 1,162.
The total number of cases in Italy, including the currently positive, the deceased and those who have recovered, is now 236,142.
