Large areas of Milan were
flooded on Monday as a wave of violent storms pounded northern
Italy.
The Seveso river is in danger of bursting its banks,
especially in the Isola district and in the areas of Viale Zara
and Piazzale Istria.
Fire fighters and police were working hard to respond to many
emergencies, including several linked to flooded underpasses.
Liguria is badly hit too, with the cities of Genoa and Savona
put on red alert due to the extreme weather.
Some 20,000 lighting bolts have struck the area since
midnight and there is a danger of landslides.
