A former member of the
Carabinieri paramilitary police force accused of raping one of
two American students after taking them home following an
evening at a night club in Florence in September 2017 has been
sentenced to 4 years and 8 months in prison.
The officer, Marco Camuffo, was found guilty of rape and
"taking advantage of the psychological and physical inferiority
of the girl" and ignoring her "clearly expressed refusal".
He is one of two former Carabinieri involved in the incident.
The judge wrote that his fellow officer, Pietro Costa, had
"said that he had heard 'no...no..no. What are you doing?' "
from the girl.
