The northern regions of Liguria
and Veneto were mopping up Wednesday after a wave of storms that
caused millions of euros in damage.
Veneto Governor Luca Zaia said "the storms have caused a
billion euros worth of damage".
Culture ministry experts began to inspect suspected damage to
the mosaic flooring of St Mark's Basilica in Venice, submerged
by an unusually high 'acqua alta' on Monday.
The situation was similar across Italy in Liguria, where
hundreds of yachts were smashed to bits at Rapallo marina
Tuesday.
In Tuscany the first half a million euros was earmarked for
relief.
