A British woman has
found a second family in Calabria born of the WWII Italian
soldier who had a relationship with her mother while a POW in
England.
After years and years of looking, Dorothy Janes, 73, found
three half-brothers in the town of San Ferdinando.
The town on Tuesday rewarded her tenacious search for her
roots by making her an honorary citizen.
Janes, born in Crawley in 1945, is the natural daughter of
Antonio Mazzitelli, who had a relationship with her mother Joyce
Punnel.
The authorities took a very dim view of such affairs and the
relationship ended with the war, when Mazzitelli returned to his
native Calabria, married a townswoman and had three children.
