Thieves have carried off
approximately 13,000 euros offered by worshippers in Naples to
local patron saint San Gennaro on the occasion of his recent
feast day, Repubblica reported Tuesday.
The offering is believed to have been stolen from the
parish office on Sunday night.
The thieves also stole 500 euros from the premises used by
the cathedral caretaker and video surveillance equipment.
Video footage suggests that four people may have been
implicated in the theft.
Carabinieri police are investigating.
The Feast of San Gennaro, who is best known for the miracle
of his liquefying blood, falls on September 19.
