A suspect in a fatal shooting
Sunday in the town of Fossanova San Marco has turned himself in,
Ferrara media reported Tuesday.
Simone Bertocchi, 36, reportedly confessed to murdering
Roberto Tosi Savonuzzi, 73, and gravely wounding his wife
Raffaella Pareschi of the same age. He also told police where he
ditched the murder weapon.
Savonuzzi died on the spot and Pareschi was hospitalized in
critical condition.
Bertocchi, who is the boyfriend of the elderly couple's
granddaughter Sabrina, had gone to their home along with an
unnamed individual, and shot them when they answered the door.
Bertocchi and the other individual both fled on bicycles
after the crime.
Tosi had been about to report suspicions that someone was
stealing his 82-year-old landlord Vittorio Chiccoli's retirement
check and this may have been the murder motive, La Nuova Ferrara
daily reported.
