Arrest warrants were served
against 28 people including local politicians and businessmen on
Thursday in an operation against the Casalesi clan of the
Neapolitan Camorra mafia formerly led by the jailed kingpin
Michele Zagaria.
The mayor of Trentola Ducenta Michele Griffo was among four
suspects who could not be traced.
Investigative sources said an information leak may be to
blame.
The suspects face various charges including criminal
association, complicity in mafia association, false ownership,
money laundering, extortion, abuse of office and fraud.
Police also seized a shopping centre worth 60 million euros
in Trentola Ducenta that is allegedly directly linked to
Zagaria.
