The percentage of women in the
Italian labour market is 49.3%, against an EU average of 61.8%,
Confcommercio retail group said Wednesday.
It said "this gap is increasing over time, from 11.6 percentage
points in 2018 to 12.5 points in 2023, and represents one of the
main problems for the long-term growth of our country".
According to a a study by Confcommercio: "Female
entrepreneurship, market of tertiary sector and economic
growth", presented Wednesday: "If Italy had a female
participation rate equal to the European one, there would be
almost 2.8 million more employed women (of which 68% in the
South) and an increase of one percentage point in the share of
female entrepreneurs in the tertiary market (from 36.2% to
37.2%) would generate approximately 2 billion euros of
additional GDP".
