Telespazio, a joint venture between
Italian aerospace giant Leonardo (67%) and France's Thales
(33%), one of the world's leading operators in the field of
satellite solutions and services, on Thursday announced an
agreement with Elon Musk's SpaceX for the commercialization of
Starlink services.
Starlink is a constellation of satellites designed to provide
broadband internet services around the world, particularly in
rural areas that are poorly served by other networks.
Thanks to this agreement, Telespazio will be able to integrate
Starlink into its global hybrid connectivity network, which is
made up of satellite and terrestrial solutions and can guarantee
reliable and resilient (fixed and mobile) communications
services, with global coverage.
Alessandro Caranci, Vice President of Telespazio's Satellite
Communications Line of Business, commented: "We are very
satisfied with the agreement reached with Starlink, which allows
Telespazio to further expand its offer portfolio in the satcom
field, thus fully responding to the specific needs of the
institutional world and of strategic segments of the industrial
world, such as energy and maritime."
Premier Giorgia Meloni said the deal was "excellent news".
She said "hoping for an ever greater collaboration, I take the
opportunity to direct my congratulations to Elon Musk for
successfully concluding the test with Starship".
