(ANSA) - ROME, JAN 31 - The Italian auto market was the worst
performer of major EU markets last year, dropping 9.7%, sector
groups said Tuesday.
Among the largest European economies, Italy recorded the worst
result for registered cars in 2022: 1,316,702 vehicles, down
9.7% compared to 2021.
It was followed by France (-7.8%) and Spain (-5.4%).
Germany, on the other hand, was positive with +1.1%., according
to the figures released by the European Automobile
Manufacturers' Association (ACEA).
Overall, 9,255,926 cars were registered in the European Union
last year, down 4.6 per cent compared to 2021 "mainly due to the
impact of component shortages during the first half of the
year".
This is the third annual decline in a row in the EU.
ACEA urged the EU to frame a "coherent" Green industrial plan,
also for the automotive sector.
The EU is set to launch a multi-billion-euro Green plan at a
special summit on Febryary 9-10, responding to the US Inflation
Reduction Act. (ANSA).
