ISTAT said Friday that last year
Italy's labour market recovered some of the ground lost in 2020
due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The national statistics agency reported a rise of 169,000 in the
number of people in employment in 2021, an increase of 0.8%,
after a drop of 724,000 (3.1%) in 2020 compared to the previous
year.
It said the rise was down to an increase in the number of people
employed on temporary contracts.
The agency reported a rise of 66,000 in the number of
unemployed.
It also said there had been a decrease in the number of people
aged 15 to 64 who were 'inactive' on the labour market.
