Taxi services were brought to a
virtual standstill across Italy by a one-day strike by drivers,
trade unions said Friday.
The unions said "drivers have stopped work in major Italian
cities since eight o'clock this morning".
They said a delegation of several hundred drivers was
demonstrating outside the industry ministry in Rome and "we are
demonstrating for a better regulation of ride-hailing apps and
against the entry of illegal drivers into the sector".
Some 300 taxis drove through the centre of Turin in protest.
Some 80% of all Italian taxi drivers joined the strike, said the
Ugl taxi, Federtaxi Cisal, Tam, Satam, Claai, Unimpresa, Usb
taxi, Or.S.A taxi, Ati Taxi, Fast Confsal and Associazione
Tutela Legale Tai trade unions.
