Power company ENEL said Wednesday it
is ready to go coal-free.
"ENEL is willing to proceed to the replacement of coal-fired
plants with renewables and gas plants" in view of leaving coal
behind scheduled in 2025, ENEL Italy chief Carlo Tamburi told
the House productive activities committee.
"Planning the activity can only be guaranteed by starting the
procedures for obtaining the necessary authorisations now," he
said.
Tamburi said he had presented earlier Wednesday a request to
the environment ministry for work to start at four sites.
Italy is set to start leaving coal behind in six years' time.
