Consumer confidence dropped from
111.2 in July to 109.2 in August while business confidence
dropped from 103 to 99.4 points in the same period, Istat
national statistics bureau said Monday.
The survey is the first since the July 14 Islamist
terrorist attack in the French city of Nice, in which over 80
people were killed and more than 300 injured.
The sharpest drop in business confidence was in the market
services sector (from 108.3 to 102.4) and in retail sales (from
101.3 to 97.1 points). Manufacturing remained more optimistic
(from 102.9 to 101.1 points), as did construction (down from
126.2 to 123.5 points).
