Losses to public coffers of 25 billion

(ANSA) - Rome, March 25 - An estimated 1.9 million people worked under the table in Italy in 2015, the association of human resources consultants said Friday in a report based on labour ministry data. This resulted in estimated losses to public coffers of 25 billion euros in payments to work-related accidents and illness agency INAIL, INPS social security and pensions fund, and income taxes. Last year labour ministry inspections of 206,080 companies uncovered irregularities at approximately two-thirds of them - or 136,028 firms - and 64,775 employees who were completely off the books. "One worker who was completely unknown to authorities was discovered to every three firms inspected," the consultants said. "Italy has six million companies".
